WINES & SPIRITS

Gin is by far the spirit that England is most associated with. It emerged in England in the early 17th Century, and it's cheap price made it popular among the poor. Wine-making was introduced to England by the Romans, and after a decline in the mid 1800s viticulture was revived in the 1970s.

GOLF

Being so closely tied to Scotland, where golf was first played, England has a long history with the sport of golf. After it was first played in Scotland in the 1400s, the sport spread through 16th century Europe and King Charles I brought the game to England. The first golf club formed outside Scotland was the Royal Blackheath, near London, in 1766.
